Founding Toto musicians and members to be inducted at Musicians Hall of Fame in Nashville on October 12, 2009
David Paich, Steve Lukather, Jeff Porcaro (In memoriam), Steve Porcaro, Mike Porcaro and David Hungate will partake in the induction on October 12, 2009 at the Musicians Hall Of Fame in Nashville.
Other nominees this year include Chet Atkins, Charlie Daniels, Billy Cox, Victor Feldman, Fred Foster and Paul Riser.
Previous inductees include The Funk Bros, The Wrecking Crew, Booker T and the MG's, The Memphis Boys and Al Kooper.
This is a great honor for the founding musicians of Toto selected by the Musicians Hall Of fame who have performed, recorded and written some of the greatest songs in so many musical genres. The founding musicians of Toto are well respected by so many of their great fans and many national recording artists in the USA and all around the world.

What an honor for TOTO
This induction, if you think about it, was for ALL who have played with and for TOTO...Lord knows that Dave, David, Luke, Steve, along with Jeff and Mike deserved it. While there at the ceremonies, there was a point in the speeches when Jeff's and Mike's kids spoke. My heart went out to the Porcaros....mom and pop...and all...
Many tears were shed that night....of sadness and of joy. But I learned one thing about the guys and especially the Porcaro family...they are golden human beings. Rick and I were so honored to spend time talking to them (as you can see on our Inside MusiCast interviews), and sharing their joy.
In all reality, TOTO is much bigger than the inductees...it's more like the WORLD of TOTO.
Kudos.

Induct Toto into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
Here is a Facebook link to Induct Toto into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame!
A timely find
With the MHoF induction right around the corner, I thought I'd pass along this comment on one of the live "Cruel" vids on YouTube. The user's name is lexiconnetje. Don't know if they're a member of this forum, but their comment is one of the best I've ever read about TOTO:
"Tight, tighter, tightest. In my mind, these guys are to musicianship what Rome is to architecture: the standard that everything should be judged by."
I couldn't agree more. Congratulations again, Dave, Luke, Steve, David, Mike and always in our hearts Jeff.
Kate
now THAT's
The standard which every compliment should be judged by!!!
Man, that is an amazing compliment, exactly what they deserve!!! CONGRATS!
:)
Amen!
euh, sorry, but why not Simon Phillips ? :)
This drummer is an atomic bomb, but with class.
Surely one of the very best.
"Why not Simon?"
Agreed that Si is a monster...loads of class and chops; great player, but this was for the FOUNDING RHYTHM SECTION only. ;-))
IF Cleveland ever gets the clue, Si SHOULD be in on THAT---....! (And that's a big IF!)
They are still alive!
Yeah, it's funny.
But ToTo members made THE BEST ROCK BAND ever. These albums are the better albums of all the rock history.
I'm sorry to think that... but that is the truth. Near ToTo guys, rockers are children learning the music. In fact, ToTo played all the styles.
These guys made my love for the music...
and I'm not the only one.
Love everybody xxx
Enough, enough, enough...................
At first when I read about the induction, I was a little confused about not being on the list. I thought the very worst had happened, and I was left off because of some kind of personal issues. I wrote to Luke, because I thought he may have made the call on that,.......then I found out that nothing could have been further from the truth. The Musician's Hall of Fame is for the "Players", not the vocalist. I then sent Luke a profound apology for thinking he had gone against me on this.
For all of you who thought I should have been on that list, I thank you from the bottom of my heart, ......but the rules are the rules and that's just how it is. Let me now say that I'm so proud of the guys that are going into the HOF there, because I can't think of a better band of musicians who deserve to be there. I love each and everyone of them, and finally, they are getting what they've deserved for so many years.
MY REWARD: Getting to sing with one of the best bands on the planet, and singing on some of the most notable hit songs Toto ever put out. I'm so very grateful to have spent my time in the band, and I'll always be a fan of Toto and the music created by them. It was a monumental honor to have sung with some of the very best players in an era that made some of the most fantastic music ever. I only feel love for the band and all the members who made it so surreal to be there when the greatest moments were happening. The original band was so awesome it was almost frightening at times. Looking around the stage at guys like Jeff Porcaro, David Paich, David Hungate, Steve Lukather, Steve Porcaro, (and I won't leave out Lenny Castro), was like standing in Heaven. I'll forever be honored to have been on stage with these giants in the music community. They were practically creating all of the musical climate we were surrounded by.
I was singing backing vocals with Bill Champlin, Michael McDonald, and Tom Kelly quite often while the rest of the guys were out playing on all of the hit songs of the early 80's. I loved every moment with Toto, and these times are indelibly etched in my mind. This is my reward. Thanks for listening to my take on the HOF induction.................Bobby
Bobby and history
Bobby - You are the voice of Toto. A touch of class. I could not even name any of the temporary stand in's. The hits may never have become hits without you. I look forward to your next venture.
yeah
Hi Bobby,
I don't know you personaly, but I'm sure you are a great guy.
I love the way you sing.
You are a big part of ToTo, note this.
Love for you and your friends. And the Band.
The only one ;)
More than deserved
Toto are outstanding musicians
As it should be...
This is glorious news! Thanks, Chainsaw...:-D

Other awards Toto should get
I think Toto should also be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
i agree with that
fantastic songs they have
I asked, and got this reply
Good Morning,
We appreciate you taking an interest in the Musicians Hall of Fame Award Show and those that will be honored this year. To answer your question, the Musicians Hall of Fame was created to honor just the musicians who played with various bands, but those who were also studio musicians for other bands like the band members of TOTO were. The musicians of the band TOTO may invite whomever they like to perform with them during the Award Show. For example, Glenn Campbell is a musician who also sings, but was inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame for his work as a studio musician.
The TOTO band members will be inducted on October 12th, 2009 at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center in Nashville, Tennessee.
If I can answer any other questions for you please let me know.

They all deserve
I had the huge luck to see Toto performing in 1982 in Basel and had the blast of my life. I still have moments of this night coming to my mind.Unfortunately no pics but I know a video 8mm was made but apparently lost. I'm on the tracks hahha...And yes Toto ans its members deserve such an award.
Bobby Kimball
why not???
The anwser
Is somewhere in this blog , if you read it closely .. Its about the MUSICIANS not the singers
That's a clear answer!
It's good to see there are still people that know how to communicate with their 'clients'!
Hugs from Holland!
I believe in music, I believe in love.
Music is love and love is music,
If you know what I mean!
Toto in Music Hall of Fame
IT'S ABOUT FREAKIN TIME ! jorgi c
Hall of Fame WOW You Deserve it!!
Man congrats go TOTO go!, take a bow you guys deserve it. What about Bobby? he is as worthy to be honoured as the other members, im sure Bobby has contributed to records and other albums. Poor bloke Bobby always seems to miss out, his forced to go to the Phillipines and pick up cheap gigs as Mr Toto, give Bobby his award.
RHYTHM SECTION
Bobby, Fergie and Joe aren't 'rhythm section" in the classic sense of the word. This is an "original rhythm section" thing-based on their studio session work.
(Check out Luke's post in this thread).
It is VERY cool to see even part of this band rewarded after so long. How many years have they been ragged out?
T
I visited the Hall of Fame in Nashville
when I was 13! I didn't know Toto then. Actually I didn't know many of the musicians there. I think it's great that Toto will be in the Hall of Fame!!!!!! Because Toto was the best band of our Galaxy!
Congrats guys!!
Congrats guys!!
Bobby /Si and.. and the Musicians HOF
OK guys, here it is as far as *I* know. *I* have nothing to do with this. Dave Hungate told us a few weeks ago but we were not allowed to say anything before the "official press release" which was 2 days ago.
This is NOT a Toto award per se. They used Toto for name recognition, which is decieving. This award is for the 1000's and 1000's of records we collectively played on, produced, arranged and or written for OTHER artists as well as some recognition as one of the few studio guys that had hit records for themselves. Like Booker T and MG's. Look at who else is in and or nominated. It tells a better story of the criteria to get in.
90,000 people from the musicians union-producers and players voted. I never even voted myself as I didnt know about it and was gone when ballots came out. This is not about Toto the BAND.
The only singers in are guys that happened to play sessions AND happen to sing and have on all the Grammy award winning multi platinum records the original RHYTHM SECTION did. I feel bad its not everyone but I dont make the rules. I just want everyone to know that WE, the guys being inducted, had NOTHING to do with any of this so please dont blame us or say we are dissing anyone who has ever been in the band !
I dont knwo what else to say? It IS drag but we have no power here.
This is all I know at the moment. I havent even talked to anyone else in the band about all this yet. It is still shocking to me personally. I never saw this comin, nor did anyone else!
Luke
Well, it's way cool anyway
Well, it's way cool anyway :)
Luke
That is very interesting, the way the votes go and everything....but congrats to you and the rest of the guys, you all deserve this for your contribution to the music industry.
Recognition at last !
Because if i'd own all the records you guys played on ? I'd have to move to a much bigger house !!
Congrats , all of you deserve it so much.
Yeah, congrats, you guys deserve this!
Keep on rockin` and live your dreams,
Ralf.
Great news...
...but I still think it sucks that many bands have to breakup before they get the attention/recognition they deserve...
Ok, but...
Am I the only one who noticed there's no Bobby Kimball?
I'm very glad for the Band for this very well deserved achievement. I don't know who took this decision but it's very unfair for Bobby in my opinion...I'm very happy and very sad at the same time.
Keep your chin up..............
The HOF induction was all about the players in Toto, who made their mark in the music world,.......not the vocalist. At first, I was wondering what the F**k, but then I found out that it was only for the players and not the vocalists. I'm so very proud of some of the best musicians on the planet getting the recognition they deserve for creating some of the most unique music that actually changed the face of the 80's sound. It was enough for me to just be in the same band with them, and to enjoy adding what I could to enhance what they were doing. It was the ride of a lifetime for me, and it puts a big smile on my face to know that they are getting recognized for all they did to make the music scene what it was at that time.
It was enough just to be there while it was happening for me. The HOF is just for the musicians and that's it. No hard feelings on my part. Only happiness that Toto received what they deserved. May the music live forever.................Bobby
WOOHOO!!!!!
That's very much deserved!!! Congrats!!!
Hugs from Holland!
I believe in music, I believe in love.
Music is love and love is music,
If you know what I mean!
About time too!
About time too! hahaha
Congratulations and well feckin deserved!

Yeeeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaaw
Congrats guys !!
Much Deserving
One of many honors our guys more than deserve...cheers.

May I say...It's about
May I say...It's about F@#$%ing time!!!!!
I JUST ASKED...
Nashville is about a 9 hour drive from where I live.
MOM AND I need a vacation...SO BAD.
When I saw CHET listed in this crowd of players, I immediately picked up the phone and asked could we attend.
WHY:
1. If there's one guy that influenced my Dad's guitar playing, it's Chet Atkins.
2. Take a look at Jeff's discography. He worked with Chet.
In a round-about way, EVERY SINGLE ONE of the guys being inducted has had some sort of musical influence on either my dad, or me.
I would SO LOVE to go see this.
Not gonna hold my breath, but it would be so fun to see this happen. And yeah, Fi...it's about time.
WAY past time.
As to the list of names?
Maybe they go by Charter members. I am unsure of when Bobby was asked to be part of the band. Maybe someone made a typing glitch?
I dunno. I'm sure that will work itself out. THE NITTY-GRITTY BOTTM LINE IS THIS: They're BEING RECOGNIZED by *NASHVILLE* of all places. Better Music Row than CLEVELAND!!!!!
Just my $.02...
T
So...
can we go? If so, how do I get tickets?
@ TAMBU: possible answer to your question
Hey TAMBU???
I just re-read the original note up there that the Saw typed out.
MUSICIANS' Hall of fame.
If you look very closely, Joe Williams and Fergie are ALSO LEFT OUT of the list of inductees. What did they do in TOTO? Sing.
Vocals-just like Bobby.
*WHICH LEADS ME TO BELIEVE...* The MUSICIANS HALL is exactly what it says it is...for *players*; not singers. They're more about rhythm sections than vocalists. The Funk Brothers PLAYED; they didn't sing. Funk Bros was a Motown Rhythm Section.
Hope this kinda-sorta makes sense now...??
I dunno; but that's my best guess.
Glad to see TOTO get inducted into any Hall of Fame, for it is very well deserved.
Way to go, fellas.
It doesn't make so much
It doesn't make so much sense to me.
The post talks about Founding Members: from my point of view Bobby Kimball is one of the 6 original founding members...
I agree, Fiona!
FINALLY!!!!
