So, here I am with the family visiting Mom and I had a very special "full circle" moment last nite: As you know, I'm from Detroit and it was here that my dream to meet Stevie Wonder was born. The end of the story is, I not only met him, he was the first artist whose band I joined some 32 years ago. Well, last night, Stevie had a show here as part of his Wonder Summer Magic" tour at an outdoor venue called Meadow Brook Music Theatre. My family and I were in the audience when late in the show, he called me up and I sat in with him. What was even more special was that I was performing with his Steve's daugther, Aisha, who is now touring with him. That's another part of my full circle moment: I was there when she was born! Naturally, Steve threw down as many smash hits as he could in 2 and 1/2 hours and a splendid time was had by all. We went backstage afterwards and Mom got a chance to get a hug from the "son" she hadn't seen in years. Who knows, maybe you can check out some of the action on YouTube. That's it for now, next week I'm on holiday!! Peace out... Greg

Greg...

Greg, your solo piece on "Falling in Between Live" is outstanding! It made me clunk my way through "Giant Steps" for an hour this evening... That was very impressive. Coltrane would've been very proud... Not to mention Tommy Flanagan. Ha. Ha.

Thank you very much

for the kind words. While I believe I've done it better, there seemed to be a couple of good moments. I always think of the many years I purposely avoided learning out of fear so I'm just happy now to get a fighting chance every now and then! And when I think of how poor Flanagan felt when Trane first gave him the chart...Ha!

G.

Greg, what was some of your

Greg, what was some of your early formal musical training & then your first big professional break after that? (& was it by chance or somebody you knew or what?) I really have always wondered this about all the guys. Thanks.

P.S. Speaking of Stevie, coincidentally enough I was supposed to see him in Cleveland tonight but it was postponed yesterday. Though I never heard why so any insight on why then?

Hey man, we were just having

Hey man, we were just having a little jazz chat. What's up with ruining all that?? Speak when you're spoken to, mate.

So Greg... Which is the greater soloist - McCoy or Herbie??

Kidding. Now.

Must have lunch.

Excuse me? Actually I think

Excuse me? Actually I think the original thread here was started by Greg & was initially about Stevie, so actually I may be a little more on topic then you are here. lol

Yup

I said I was joking, alrighty. You're indeed more on topic than I am, Louise!

Well alrighty then.

Well alrighty then. You're a pretty weird cat sometimes, eh?
