Guys - you have to realize this is all beta material. This was shot with a silly little phone which can probably handle about 20db of level cleanly. Audio level at the kit is approx 97db - that is very loud!!!!!!!!
This is just to give a bird's eye view of what I look at everyday.
Chill cats ........
You mean your phone doesn't have the capability of recording a 192 kHz sampling rate at 24 bit? What about a good pair of embedded micro Schoeps or Neumann mics? And don't forget about a good mic-pre. All cell phones should have some sort of miniaturized Avalon or Focusrite mic pre-amps at minimum.
next years model will be all that with 48 tracks and a 400 terabyte drive. the problem will be pressing the tiny buttons to get to it.Amazing! An Ampex 1 track recorder used to like thisThanks for the clip Simon. Its great to have a chance to see stuff from the players POV , even if it is low bandwidth.

hey si,
hope you're enjoying europe...
you know, the si eye view of the sound check, with the 20db phone and the 97db kit is a sort of an impressionist thing - not reality and that's ok... a fun poke in the eye anyway!
Si, well I guess you answered my question of EQ on the phones! ;-) Thanks!
One more question (maybe two). What Zildjian setup are you using on this tour? I'm in the "save money" phase right now, but I plan to begin putting a jazz kit together next spring. Pearl MMX topped with Zildjian & Paiste.
Does your setup change venue to venue?
I've read Jeff's quotes where he said his kit changed tune to tune if he was tracking stuff in the studio-but on the road...how often does your cymbal setup change?!

Man, the bird's eye view is priceless despite audio quality. Thanks for giving us food for thought and eyes. Now I'll chill with toast and a beer.
